Principal direction of SMNG-Center’s Interpretation department activity is to render services for interpretation of 2D and 3D marine seismic data. The staff of Interpretation department is within 15 years engaged in successful studies conducted in the most diverse geologic settings offshore Arctic (the Barents, Kara, Pechora), Far East (the Sea of Okhotsk) Seas and within the tender blocks of India, Vietnam, Cuba, Venezuela. Numerous projects were also carried out within Arctic shelf fields in the zones of ultimate shallow waters (the Ob and Taz Bays) and within some fields of Western Siberia (land seismic).

The largest Russian oil companies such as Gazprom, Gazprom zarubezhneftegaz, Gazflot, Zarubezhneft, JOC Vietgazprom are our customers.

 The range of interpretation services rendered by SMNG-Center is rather wide: from integrated regional studies of the sedimentary basins, identification and preparation of prospects and non-anticlinal traps with the giving of recommendations on the optimal well location up to reservoir study, geological modeling, estimation of in-place resources and hydrocarbon reserves.

GeoAnomaly detection

For processing and interpretation of seismic data SMNG-Center has an extensive network of up-to-date workstations (PC-based with large-format monitors) that provides a fast export/import of processing results on the interpretation of the information space.

Interpretation is performed by using a petroleum industry leading supplier DecisionSpaсe Desktop (DSD) - Landmark software in which numerous applications are integrated by OpenWork R5000. These applications provide sharing of geological, geophysical and well data; interpretation, mapping, 3D and 2D visualization, generation of velocity and geological model of environment.

Structural Framework

In addition to the base interpretation package, applications from Jason Geoscience Workbench software (Fugro-Jason) and also AVO, AFI, Emergy software solutions (Hampson-Russell) are utilized under leasing agreement for seismic inversion, to forecast lithofacies characteristics of the section, reservoir capacity, possible type of fluid saturation etc.  

The selection of interpretation technique and tools directly depends on subsurface geology of potentially oil and gas bearing area and the details of the task to be solved.

Except for the procedures of standard 2D and 3D structural interpretation, DSD interpretation software package is used for interpretation and interwell correlation of logging data, generation of petrophysical model, tie between seismic and well data by the means of synthetic modeling, creation of velocity model calibrated for the wells which is utilized for time-to-depth conversion. Computation of numerous structural and seismic attributes and attribute volumes is carried out.

During interpretation multi-surface structure Framework properly integrated with faults and unconformities is created. It may fill with log-derived properties and attribute-derived volumes.

For potential reservoirs interactive interpretation of fluid contacts and estimation of in-place resources are performed.
